This means I have demonstrated mastery of the Core Protocols, standardized interpersonal behaviors and best practices for results-oriented teamwork.

I will write more about this wonderful experience the next days. For now you have to do it with this top Ten list I have found from one of the trainers.

My projects effortlessly complete on schedule and in budget every time.

Every team I’ve ever been on has shared vision.

In meetings, we only ever do what will get results.

No one here blames “management”, or anyone else, if they don’t get what they want.

Everybody here shares their best ideas right away.

Ideas are immediately unanimously approved, improved, or rejected by the team.

Action on approved ideas begins immediately.

If we avoid conflict it goes away.

I do everything myself. I don’t need to work with others and I have no customers.

I prefer crisis, inefficiency, and unresolved conflict – it gives me something to talk about over dinner.

BootCamp. It just works.

I am Yves Hanoulle, your virtual Project coach and you can reach me at blog at my last name.be

Technorati tags: BootCamp, Certified Core Competent, McCarthy Technologies, standardized interpersonal behaviors, best practices for results-oriented teamwork, team Conflict, share best idea's, No Customers, Crisis, Jim McCarthy, Michele McCarthy, Victoria Gray, Paul Reeves, Top ten reasons to say NO to BootCamp

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-03-07T18:21:26Z</dcterms:modified>

Zulma Howsen

Zulma Howsen
Titel Distinguished Engineer
Info geboren: 02/11/1973
getrouwt met Jeff op 31/4/1 om 5 u 9 min 26 seconden
Children:
• Bjärne 08/09/2003
• Irma Ada 17/10/2005
In dienst sedert 1998

UPDATE==> this is the description people get before playing "Help, my team is in war" meeting.

I do not like to come late, but when you have to do a one minute presentation at the beginning of an event it is a problem.
I saw my dad, and while I was approaching him, I heard my name announced on stage. I past my dad, and stepped “on stage” with my dad following me.
We had a little sketch prepared where I had to hit him with a big fake hammer (I hope someone took pictures of that.) and because of the rush I really hit hard. That was fun to do. It was my first opportunity to hit my dad. It felt even “’nicer”, because it was his idea.
My line was:

Why don’t (hit) you (hit) come (hit) with (hit) (hit) me(hit).

That is one way to try to persuade someone.
Another one we showed was:
I went out in the audience (as far as my microphone let me), with my back to him and said. “I want you to come with me, but if you do not want to that is your choice. I already go and I hope to see you there.”

Two more ways we showed:
• I bribed my father with offering him large sums of money
• I begged him (on my knees) please come with me, because I feel lonely without you. And I need you so much and so do these other people and….
It was really fun to do. I did not know I had an actor hidden in me.

After that I did not went to sessions because I was waiting on a phone call from my wife (ok girlfriend) who went to the doctor.
When she called me, I heard that we would have the baby removed on Friday.
So only one XPDay.be for me.
Ok that is a fine. Life is all about priorities.
At 13:30 we had our own sessions.
After lots of preparation and 2 try-outs we both felt rather comfortable about it.
We started with an introduction round, “who are you”, “why you are here”.
Then directly a very confronting exercise, we dived the group into small teams of 3. We asked the oldest to lay down, and the second oldest to try to persuade the first to stand up. The third person is the observer. (We like to work with observers, because you learn so much just by closely looking at other people.)
It keeps surprising me, how much resistance there is to this exercise.

After a feedback round, we deliver our theory leadership based on The rose of axes. Just like in the try-out people got this pretty quick. We asked to retry the first exercise, from a certain leadership position.
Wow some people really, really got it.

The big exercise we did in the second part was a “Daily board” (Dagelijks bestuur) from a company that come together to discuss Zulma Howsen. They are not happy about her. And they are sitting together to decide if they will fire her.
We asked people what position they wanted to try out (My father decided this “I the moment”, and that is where preparation help so much, if I know what I am doing, and I have my complete time line (We need this more for 3 hour workshops then for one day of work.) it is very easy to change things on the spot.
We had 1 boss, 6 team members (one for each position) and 7 observers.
It was again a fantastic meeting.
Most people stuck to their roll pretty well. One woman was actually shaking from fear.

And the boss?
Well it is lonely at the top, especially in our games. He did ok. To help him, we gave him a pair-leader in the second part. (The leader observer helped the leader.)
I enjoyed the game. I loved to work with my father. I learned again from my mistakes, and the feedback my father gave to me.
XPday.be do not miss it next year. !!
Oh and the feedback I heard on the closing one minute was

“… It was fun; I learned a lot. If you see this session somewhere, just go to it.”

My first reaction was: "XP Paris", need some more presenters?
Thanks to the participants; Take a look at my pictures on Flickr. And see you around…

I am Yves Hanoulle, your virtual Project coach and you can reach me at blog at my last name.be

Technorati tags: Coaching Leadership ProjectCoaching XP XPDay Leadership Game My team is at war

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-04-01T01:10:54Z</dcterms:modified>

What would I need the five Why's of the Toyota Way for?

I did not follow the Toyota way session at XPday London [Sorry Pascal], so I did not have an answer to my trouble with the five why`s. My question is, what is so good about the five why`s in lean?
As a coach I prefer using specific questions like:
Who

What

How many

When

And not why.
Why is the question my 2 year old is asking.
It is a questions I can always ask without thinking. From what I heared of the toyota way, the thoughts are at a much deeper level as my two year old is having at this moment.
So what is the deeper level? Maybe I can use the 5 why`s as another way to deal with this.
So if I really can not find a good question without why, I would ask why five times in a row to dive deeper.

When I told Vera about my idea, she said that this was exactly what was the intend of the five why`s.
Every one of the why`s is suppose to ask for another level. And it turns out that we really need this fifth level.(The toyota way says you will always find the same core level, whatever question or challenge you start with.)
When she tried it out on me, I came to realize that these why`s are as difficult to ask as my what, who, when, how many questions.
So any of the why questions can be replaced with any of the others. That is good to know, just two different ways to come to the same output.
I did not see the session, I still got the deeper thinking, thank you vera (and Pascal who jumped in later)
Where it first felt like an adapted way for plant workers (That was a rather disrespected and blasé thinking of me), now I see it as another tool in my coaching box.

I am Yves Hanoulle, your virtual Project coach and you can reach me at blog at my last name
